In a move to quell internal unrest, the Adolphus Wabara led Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly reaffirmed its support for the party’s current leadership while setting up a high powered committee to reconcile warring factions ahead of a critical national convention.
The resolutions came at the end of an emergency meeting of the party’s conscience, held on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, in response to what it described as “recent developments within our ranks that have caused understandable concerns.”
The communique was formally presented by the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, His Excellency Senator Adolphus Wabara.
A central pillar of the BoT’s communique was its unwavering endorsement of the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC). The board moved to project an image of a stable and focused party, stating, “The BoT reaffirms that the PDP remains a united, formidable and focused political party under the leadership of the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).”
Further solidifying this position, the BoT extended its commendation to the broader party structure. “The BoT solidly stands with and commends the Amb. Iliya Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP Governors Forum, the National Convention Organizing Committee and other critical Organs of the Party for their collective roles in stabilizing our Party,” the communique noted, highlighting their efforts as the party progresses towards its Elective National Convention scheduled for the 15th and 16th of November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The board also welcomed a recent court ruling that paves the way for the convention to proceed. It referenced the ruling of the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A L Akintola, “which affirmed the Constitutional right and liberty of our Party to manage its internal affairs including holding our 2025 Elective National Convention as scheduled.” The BoT hailed this decision as a “victory to Democracy, Rule of Law and political development in our country.”
However, the meeting was convened primarily to address public displays of discord that have recently plagued the opposition party. The BoT expressed clear worry over these events, directly referencing “the tensions, misunderstandings, and regrettable incidents that have played out in public including the invasion of our National Secretariat.” It stated unequivocally that such actions “are not reflective of the ideals and character of the PDP.”
Adopting the role of a neutral arbiter, the BoT emphasised its commitment to the party’s integrity above all else. “As the conscience of the party, the BoT cannot and will not take sides but remain focused on safeguarding the integrity of the PDP and ensuring dialogue over discord,” the communique declared. It framed the push for reconciliation not as a concession but as a strategic choice, asserting that “the decision for reconciliation is not as a sign of weakness, but as a demonstration of maturity and responsibility.”
To translate this commitment into action, the BoT announced the establishment of a high-powered reconciliation committee tasked with the immediate mission to “reconcile all conflicting sides and restore unity of purpose in our party.” The six-member committee is geographically representative, featuring members from all six zones of Nigeria.
The committee members are Amb. Hassan Adamu from the North East, who will serve as Chairman, and Chief Mike Oghiadomhe from the South South, who will act as Secretary. Other members include Chief Ugochukwu Okeke (South East), Sen. Zaynab Kure (North Central), Prince Onyinlola Olagunsoye (South West), and Dr. Lubna Mohammed Gusau (North West).
The committee has been given a tight deadline, underscoring the urgency of the situation with the convention just days away. “The BoT mandated the Reconciliation Committee to report back to it on Tuesday, 11th November, 2025 for further action,” the communique stated.
