Nigeria’s electoral commission has shortlisted eight political associations to advance to the final stage of registration as official political parties.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced the development after reviewing applications from fourteen organisations that had previously met preliminary requirements.
The commission had opened a dedicated portal last month for the submission of required documents, setting a deadline of 18th October. From the original fourteen groups that qualified for this stage, only eight managed to complete the full documentation process successfully.
The successful associations include the All Democratic Alliance, Citizens Democratic Alliance, Abundance Social Party, African Alliance Party, Democratic Leadership Alliance, Green Future Party, National Democratic Party and Peoples Freedom Party.
These groups will now undergo detailed verification of their submitted documents to ensure they meet all constitutional requirements and electoral guidelines. The commission’s national commissioner, Sam Olumekun, stated that INEC remains committed to transparency and deepening Nigeria’s democratic process through inclusive party registration.
The next phase of assessment will determine whether these eight associations satisfy all legal conditions to become fully-fledged political parties capable of fielding candidates in future elections across Nigeria.
