The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to impartial enforcement of electoral regulations, issuing a clear directive to the People’s Democratic Party leadership regarding strict compliance with established procedures.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this today when high powered delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum, paid a formal visit at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
The meeting sought to resolve regulatory uncertainties affecting the opposition party through direct consultation with the electoral body.
Responding to their request, Professor Yakubu reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to its statutory responsibilities, stating, “Our role is to ensure that the rules are followed.”
Following the preliminary formalities, discussions moved into a private session where substantive dialogue commenced between PDP representatives and INEC officials regarding collaborative solutions.”
