The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the timetable for the Osun State Governorship election, moving the poll forward by one week from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026.
The Commission disclosed this in a press statement issued on Thursday, April 16, 2026, signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
INEC explained that the adjustment follows a revision of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, which was issued on February 26, 2026.
As a direct consequence of this shift, the last day for political parties to conduct campaigns in Osun State is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The Commission noted that this aligns with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that all campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.
INEC urged all political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections in Osun State and across the nation.
