The move to impeach Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, appears to be losing momentum as two more members of the State House of Assembly withdrew their support on Wednesday.
Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II publicly called for a peaceful resolution to the state’s political crisis, becoming the third and fourth lawmakers to step back from the process in 48 hours.
Although the legislators maintained that the governor and his deputy may have breached constitutional provisions, they stated that their change of stance followed interventions by respected leaders and stakeholders appealing for restraint in the interest of peace and stability.
This latest development means that four of the 26 lawmakers who initially endorsed the notice of alleged gross misconduct have now distanced themselves from the impeachment push, signalling growing calls within the Assembly for dialogue over confrontation.
The Rivers State House of Assembly is expected to reconvene plenary on January 15, 2026, with attention now focused on how the leadership will navigate the deepening divisions.
The withdrawals follow a similar move on Tuesday by the House Minority Leader, Sylvanus Nwankwo of Omuma Constituency, and Peter Abbey of Degema Constituency, who also urged their colleagues to halt the impeachment process and seek alternative solutions to the political impasse.
