The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has confessed that he knew he and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would lose the election before Nigerians went to the polls.
Okowa made the revelation at a recent event held in his home state, Delta.
The former Delta State governor said his reading of the political terrain was so clear that he had already told Christian leaders the likely outcome of the election long before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results.
“I knew we would not win the election. And even when I met with the Christian leaders, I told them that APC will win, while PDP will come second and then Labour Party will come third,” Okowa said.
INEC eventually declared President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the polls, while Atiku finished second and Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third, exactly as Okowa said.
Okowa has joined Tinubu in the APC to wrestle power with Atiku in the 2027 presidential election.
