Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has declared that he does not have any preferred candidates ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries scheduled for April and May this year.
The governor made this known on Tuesday night during the breaking of Ramadan fast with members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly. He urged all aspirants seeking elective offices to rely on their popularity and seek the support of party members rather than looking for endorsement from the government.
“My advice to every aspirant who is seeking for any office is to get the support of party members. I have no anointed candidates in the coming primaries that will take place between April and May this year. I will abide by what the people decide,” Sani said.
The governor vowed not to interfere with the primary or selection process that will produce standard bearers for the APC in the state, promising instead to support whichever candidates emerge from a free and fair process.
While maintaining his neutrality at the state level, Sani reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, describing him as his “only candidate” for the 2027 presidential election. He pledged to work tirelessly to ensure the president’s reelection.
Drawing from personal experience, the governor advised those who may lose out during the primaries to resist the temptation of working against the party. He recounted how he was allegedly shortchanged during party congresses in the previous administration, which prevented most of his supporters from clinching party positions.
“At that time, some people wanted me to work against the party. I told them that I wouldn’t work against the house that I helped to build. As God will have it, I’m the Governor today,” he recalled.
He cautioned party members against internal sabotage, warning that the opposition would exploit any division within the APC. According to the governor, opposition parties plan to campaign using the security challenges facing the country because “they have nothing else to offer.”
Sani, however, highlighted improvements in Kaduna State’s security situation since his administration assumed office in 2023. He noted that 535 schools and 85 health facilities previously closed due to insecurity have been reopened.
The governor also announced infrastructural progress, including the ongoing construction of the 35-kilometer Bagoma-Gagumi road, which will connect 62 farming communities in Birnin Gwari local government area. He added that a contract has also been awarded for the construction of the Mando to Birnin Gwari road.
“I advise every party member to work for the victory of APC. The party belongs to all of us,” Sani concluded.
