Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney General, has written an official letter to the country’s top security officials.
He is worried about a claimed plan to cause violence in Kebbi State by bringing in political thugs and hired soldiers from other countries.
The letter was sent to the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, and the heads of the immigration and security services.
It states that Malami believes some political figures are working with mercenaries from Niger Republic and getting weapons illegally.
Malami says these armed groups are meant to attack people, silence those who oppose them, and disrupt the peace in the state. He mentioned a specific incident on September 1st where he and others were allegedly attacked by these thugs.
The petition also directly accuses the current Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, and his associates of helping these operations. It even suggests they have secret connections to a terrorist network known as Lakurawa.
Malami has called the situation a “national security emergency” and has asked the security chiefs to work together to:
· Secure the borders to stop more mercenaries and weapons coming in.
· Start a major investigation into the alleged collaboration between state officials and terrorist groups.
The letter has been shared with all the main security agencies to highlight the urgency of the matter.
