A group of prominent leaders from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have issued a strong statement reaffirming their commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, dismissing rumours of disaffection within their ranks.
In a jointly signed communiqué released on Thursday, the group, which includes former governors, senators, and key party figures, described recent speculations about their planned defection from the APC as “mischievous and unfounded.” They emphasised that the CPC bloc remains a foundational pillar of the ruling party and pledged continued support for Tinubu’s economic reforms.
“We have neither left the APC nor do we intend to leave,” the statement read. “The CPC bloc remains one of the legacy foundations of the APC, and we are resolute in our commitment to the party and its progressive ideals.” The leaders acknowledged the challenges posed by current economic policies but urged Nigerians to remain patient, describing the reforms as necessary for long-term stability.
The statement also addressed internal grievances within the APC, advising aggrieved members to seek resolution through the party’s constitutional channels rather than public agitation. “While some members may feel sidelined, such grievances are not exclusive to any one bloc,” they noted, calling for enhanced engagement from the party’s leadership to foster unity.
Signatories to the statement included former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, ex-Katsina Governor Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, former Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, and other notable figures such as Mr. Osita Okechukwu and Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu.
The group reiterated their belief in the APC’s vision, urging members to avoid actions that could undermine the party’s cohesion or Nigeria’s democratic progress. “At this critical point, we must work together to preserve the APC’s legacy and consolidate our democracy,” the statement concluded.

The leaders ended with a rallying call: “Long Live President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Long Live the APC. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
