The Federal Government has officially launched the second phase of its Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI 2), with 41,307 Nigerians selected to benefit from skills training, starter packs, and access to loans.
The scheme was flagged off on Thursday during a ceremony at the new corporate headquarters of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Abuja. Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, delivered the keynote address, describing the initiative as a โbold declaration of intentโ by the Tinubu administration to tackle unemployment and poverty.
According to the plan, a minimum of four persons will be trained from each of Nigeriaโs 8,809 electoral wards. The training will cover over 30 skill areas, including ICT, renewable energy, agriculture, and the creative industries.
โThis translates to 41,307 households uplifted, 41,307 futures restored and 41,307 seeds of prosperity planted in every corner of the federation,โ Akume stated.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, who performed the official flag-off, noted that the initiative was both โhistoric and symbolic.โ He recalled that under the first phase in 2024, a total of 33,692 Nigerians were trained and many were resettled with starter packs and soft loans.
โThe second phase we are flagging off today is a direct response to the lessons of Phase One. This is about ensuring our young people, women and vulnerable groups are not just trained but also resettled into sustainable ventures that will grow our economy,โ the Minister said.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, urged participants to take full advantage of the programme and become job creators in their communities.
NDE Director-General, Silas Agara, confirmed that over 400,000 Nigerians had applied for the 41,307 slots when the registration portal opened in July.
