President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their goodwill as he marked his 74th birthday, describing his journey in office as one defined by service, sacrifice, and shared responsibility.
In a statement from the State House in Aso Villa, Mr Tinubu thanked citizens for their messages, prayers, and demonstrations of support, noting that the outpouring of goodwill reflects patriotism and unity across the country.
He acknowledged individuals and institutions that celebrated him publicly, including those who took out space in newspapers and paid for airtime on radio and television, saying their gestures were deeply appreciated. The president also expressed gratitude to his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, as well as Vice President Kashim Shettima, for their kind words and support.
Mr Tinubu said he chose to mark the occasion in a low-key manner, in line with his tradition of aligning personal celebrations with the prevailing national mood. He reflected on the challenges faced since the introduction of his administration’s reforms, noting that while the journey has not been without difficulties, the outcomes so far suggest progress is being made.
He stated that the sacrifices made by Nigerians have not been in vain, adding that there is a “glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel” despite setbacks linked to broader global factors, including tensions in the Middle East. According to him, the responsibility for the achievements recorded so far rests not only on his administration but also on Nigerians who have shown resilience and support.
As the administration approaches its third anniversary, Mr Tinubu expressed optimism about the future, stating that his government remains committed to building a stronger and more prosperous nation. He emphasized that overcoming current challenges will require continued unity and collective effort.
He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast and to continue working together toward national development, adding that the goal is to create a country that stands as a source of pride for Africa.
“Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa,” he said, concluding with birthday greetings to himself and appreciation to the Nigerian people.
