Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Government has inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) charged with planning, organising, and executing activities to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The ceremony, which took place in the nation’s capital, was presided over by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON.
In his address, Sen. Akume emphasised the significance of the anniversary as a symbol of national unity and progress. He described the event not only as a celebration of the country’s historical milestones but also as a call to action for collective responsibility toward nation-building.
“This anniversary is a reminder of where we are coming from and where we are going from here,” Akume stated. “As a nation, we have faced challenges in areas such as political, economic, and social issues, but we have overcome them. An anniversary is not just a celebration of the past—it is a call to action for the future.”
He further urged the committee to organise events that would inspire patriotism and reflect the theme of unity, while also ensuring that all citizens feel “valued and empowered to contribute their quota to the goals and aspirations of the country.”
The week-long celebration is scheduled to begin on Thursday, 25th September 2025, with a World Press Conference. Other activities include:
· Juma’at Service – Friday, 26th September 2025
