A former federal lawmaker, Chief Sam Onuigbo, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Onuigbo, who represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, stated this on Sunday during a family thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Methodist Church, Obuohia Obi-Ibere, in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
He attributed his prediction to the President’s “far-reaching decisions” focused on repositioning the country for prosperity, growth, and security.
While acknowledging the nation’s current challenges, the former lawmaker insisted that Tinubu had successfully pilated the country’s affairs in his first two years.
“I have no doubt whatsoever that in 2027, Tinubu will be re-elected as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Onuigbo told journalists.
He pointed to recent economic indicators as the basis for his optimism: “The facts from the National Bureau of Statistics show that prices of food items have been coming down steadily, and that has been validated. Also, inflation has come down, and he has been able to unify the foreign exchange rates.
“Interestingly, nobody has gone in search of fuel with jerry cans throughout this festive period. These are upward economic movements. So, I’m convinced that he will be re-elected.”
Onuigbo, who currently represents the South-East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), said the thanksgiving was to honour God’s mercies and protection over him and his family through political challenges and humble beginnings.
He pledged to rebuild his community church in appreciation of God’s blessings.
The event was attended by dignitaries including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and the Senator for Abia Central, Austin Akobundu.
In his sermon, the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Oliver Aba, urged the congregation to always show gratitude to God, using Onuigbo’s gesture as an example.
