Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has disowned a support group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing it of fabricating statements and attributing them to him.
The admonition was issued directly by El-Rufai on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday morning, though the specific fabricated statements were not detailed in the post.
The former governor made it clear that his objection was not necessarily to the content of the messages but to the dishonest practice of putting words in his mouth. He emphasised his own active social media channels as the sole authentic source of his opinions.
“Dear ADC Vanguard. Please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my social media handles where I can make my views and opinions published,” El-Rufai wrote.
He added, “I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith.”
Although El-Rufai did not specify the nature of the fabricated statements, the group, ADC Vanguard, was swift in its response, issuing a public apology to the former governor.
In its reply, the group expressed regret for the action and promised to adhere to verified communications going forward.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you. We respect your voice and your platforms as the proper channels for your views,” the group stated.
“Going forward, we will ensure that only verified and authentic sources are reflected in our communications. Thank you for pointing this out with clarity and respect.”
