President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, support the nation’s security forces, and remain resilient in the face of ongoing economic difficulties, as Christians across the country celebrate Easter.
In a statehouse press statement released on Friday, April 3, 2026, the President described Easter as a season of sacrifice, resilience, and the triumph of light over darkness—themes he said resonate deeply with Nigeria’s current realities.
“For us in Nigeria, the essence resonates with our current realities as we navigate a period marked by economic strain and security challenges, even as determined efforts are underway to address them,” Tinubu said.
The President acknowledged that despite the administration’s efforts and the gallantry of the Armed Forces, security challenges persist. He noted that he was in Jos on Thursday to commiserate with the people of Plateau State over their losses, and to offer reassurances.
“The leaders of the nation’s security institutions have given strong assurances of progress. We have also sought and are receiving assistance from outside our shores,” Tinubu stated, adding that concerted efforts are already yielding breakthroughs in other parts of the country facing insecurity.
He urged all citizens to support lawful efforts, be their brothers’ keeper, and reject forces that threaten collective well-being.
On the economic front, the President defended his administration’s ongoing reforms, describing them as demanding but necessary.
“True transformation cannot be achieved without sacrifice, and history affirms that enduring progress is often forged in moments such as these,” he said. “Economic indicators show we are making the right choices. A new dawn is on the horizon.”
With another electoral cycle approaching, Tinubu also called for civic maturity, urging political parties and actors to be guided by the Electoral Act and a shared commitment to peace, continuity, stability, and the long-term good of the country.
“Democracy flourishes where responsibility, restraint, and informed participation prevail,” he added.
The President thanked Nigerians for their continued trust and support, and enjoined them to keep the faith and contribute to the emergence of a stronger, more prosperous, and safer nation.
“I wish you all a Happy Easter,” Tinubu concluded.
