The Department of State Services (DSS) has intercepted and arrested two suspected arms traffickers in Mararaban Tula, Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State, following weeks of intelligence-led surveillance. The suspects, identified as Muhammed Alhaji Mohammed, 55, and Sani Gesha, 47, were apprehended while traveling in a grey Toyota Corolla with registration number Taraba JAL475YQ. Security operatives recovered two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) warheads, an RPG launcher, and several rounds of ammunition from the vehicle.

Authorities say the suspects are believed to have been involved in trafficking arms across Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Adamawa States, supplying weapons to criminal elements in the region. Security sources revealed that the DSS had monitored the movements of the suspects for approximately three weeks before executing the operation, which was aimed at disrupting the supply of dangerous weapons to bandits and other armed groups.
Investigations indicate that the recovered weapons were allegedly intended for delivery to one Ardo Hamma Ari, a resident of Alkaleri Local Government Area in Bauchi State. The DSS operation also uncovered a connection to other criminal networks, demonstrating the sophisticated methods used by traffickers to move arms across state borders.
The suspects are currently in DSS custody and are expected to face charges related to illegal possession and trafficking of military-grade weapons. The agency emphasized that intelligence-led operations remain a cornerstone of its strategy to combat arms proliferation in northern Nigeria and prevent weapons from reaching armed gangs and insurgent groups.
The operation has been hailed by local authorities and security experts as a critical intervention that prevented potentially deadly weapons from reaching the hands of criminals, reinforcing the commitment of Nigerian security agencies to maintain public safety and protect communities across the region.
