Veteran journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than 24 hours after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s dramatic exit from the opposition party.
Momodu, publisher of OVATION Magazine and a vocal supporter of Atiku’s 2027 presidential ambition, submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in Edo State on Thursday morning. The letter, obtained by our correspondent, delivers a scathing indictment of the party’s leadership.
“Our party has been unargueably hijacked by anti-democratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight,” Momodu wrote. “It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
A Requiem for PDP?
Momodu’s letter frames his exit as part of a broader opposition realignment. “I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times,” he told local party officials in his Ihievbe ward, while making clear his allegiance now lies with Atiku’s new political vehicle.
The ADC has emerged as the preferred destination for disaffected PDP members, with former governors, federal lawmakers, and key strategists reportedly in talks to defect. Party insiders suggest more high profile resignations could follow before week’s end.
