The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack by gunmen that left several residents dead and others injured.
The directive was announced on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, in a statement issued to the press.
According to the government, the decision followed a Sunday night attack on the Angwan Rukuba community, where armed assailants reportedly killed multiple residents and left many others wounded.
“The Plateau government, in conjunction with security agencies, has imposed a 48-hour curfew within Jos North LGA,” the statement read.
Ramnap added that the curfew took effect from midnight on Sunday, March 29, and will run until Wednesday, April 1.
The state government strongly condemned the attack, describing it as unprovoked and unacceptable, while expressing concern over the loss of innocent lives.
Residents of the affected area were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and fully comply with the curfew directive to enable security agencies restore order and prevent further violence.
The commissioner assured that security forces have been mobilised and proactive measures put in place to prevent a recurrence, as well as to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, with authorities reiterating their commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
