Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)—and he is bringing the entire party structure along with him.
The governor announced his departure from the PDP in a statewide broadcast on Friday morning, but the move is far more than a solitary switch. Fintiri revealed that his decision includes all 226 ward structures, all 21 local government areas, and both elected and appointed party officials who were previously under the PDP banner.
This mass movement effectively decimates the PDP’s presence in the state, transferring its entire political machinery to the ruling party at the center. Fintiri described the decision as a “political alignment” rather than a personal defection, following extensive consultations with leaders and communities across the state.
He explained that the move was strategic, aimed at allowing Adamawa to fully leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. By aligning with the APC, Fintiri argued, the state is better positioned to access federal support for social welfare, infrastructure, housing, and economic development.
“Wherever we go from here, we go together, with the political strength and structures to add value,” Fintiri assured his supporters, urging them to register en masse with the APC and prepare for what he described as a secure future under the new alignment.
The governor emphasized that the decision was not motivated by personal ambition but by the overriding need for the long-term stability and prosperity of Adamawa State.
