Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after a dramatic day at two separate courts in Kaduna.
El-Rufai, who was temporarily released on March 27, 2026, to mourn the passing of his mother, was re-arraigned earlier on Tuesday.
His return to detention marks the latest development in the ongoing corruption case filed against him by the anti-graft agency.
The former governor’s day in court began at the Kaduna State High Court, where he appeared for a separate charge also instituted by the ICPC. However, proceedings were stalled due to the absence of the second defendant in the suit. Consequently, the court adjourned the hearing to April 10, 2026.
Following that appearance, El-Rufai was taken to the Federal High Court, Kaduna, where his application for bail was scheduled to be heard. The bail application had been previously adjourned to March 31, 2026.
After the day’s legal proceedings, the former governor was handed back into the custody of the ICPC. As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the adjournment of his bail hearing were still emerging.
