Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has sworn in four new commissioners, charging them to uphold transparency, accountability and effective service delivery as they join the State Executive Council.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Bauchi, followed the resignation of some commissioners and special advisers who stepped down to pursue elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections in compliance with legal requirements.
Governor Mohammed said the appointments were necessary to fill the vacancies created by the resignations while preserving the administration’s policy of ensuring that every one of the state’s 20 local government areas is represented in the Executive Council.
He explained that each of the newly appointed commissioners was nominated from the affected local government areas after undergoing screening and confirmation by the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
According to the governor, the appointments were based on competence, integrity and commitment to public service rather than political considerations.
He urged the commissioners to quickly acquaint themselves with government policies and programmes, stressing that they must work closely with permanent secretaries and other civil servants to ensure effective implementation of the administration’s development agenda.
Governor Mohammed reminded them that commissioners serve as chief executives of their ministries and must promote teamwork, discipline and professionalism in achieving the objectives of their respective ministries, departments and agencies.
He also warned that their actions would remain under public scrutiny, noting that any misconduct or failure on their part would reflect negatively on the administration.
The governor further cautioned the appointees against financial misconduct, directing them to strictly adhere to due process and ensure prudent management of public resources.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, insisting that funds entrusted to government officials must be used solely for projects and programmes that improve the lives of citizens.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements since assuming office in 2019, Mohammed cited significant investments in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, water supply, security and youth empowerment.
He said the government’s interventions had transformed Bauchi State and earned it recognition as one of the fastest-growing economies in the North-East.
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to execute people-oriented projects until the end of its tenure, with emphasis on improving living standards through infrastructure, job creation and human capital development.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated commissioners, Alhaji Baraya Ibrahim expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their loyalty and commitment to the administration.
He assured the governor that the new commissioners would discharge their responsibilities diligently, uphold the law and contribute meaningfully to the continued development of Bauchi State.
Baraya also praised the administration’s infrastructure projects across the state, saying visible development could be seen in virtually every part of Bauchi.
The oath of office and oath of allegiance were administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Talatu Umar.
The newly inaugurated commissioners are Madaki Ahmed Gololo (Gamawa), Bashir Ya’u (Katagum), Bashir Adamu Rishi (Toro) and Alhaji Baraya Ibrahim (Warji).
