Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has provided clarification regarding the current party affiliations of key political figuresโAtiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufaiโamid their association with the ADC’s coalition efforts.
During an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Abdullahi explained that while these leaders have aligned with the ADC’s movement, their formal transition remains pending due to ongoing electoral commitments.
He said the nature of political engagement requires strategic timing.
He specifically cited former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and his faction within the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as an example, noting they had already taken concrete steps by obtaining ADC nomination forms.
He explained that once their current electoral obligations conclude, he anticipate their full integration into the ADC.
He said: โThere are elections taking place before 2027 that these parties are engaged in, that people like Mallam Nasir El Rufai have his group engaged in. So they have bought forms on the platform of those parties.
โSo it is only sensible that you allow them to contest, the candidates to contest election on the grounds of those parties. And when they are done with that, everybody, and as was indicated yesterday, everybody in principle is in ADC.
โIt is clear what we are doing is very clear to us. Every single person that believes that Nigeria cannot be reduced to a one party state is in this coalition.
โIf anyone has problems with that, that we should watch and allow Nigeria to become a one party civilian dictatorship, then they can begin to throw up all this.
โWe do not think it will be a smooth ride. We think it will be bumpy, but we are ready to deal with it.โ
