All is set for political associates of Kano strongman Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as talks continue over a possible alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
This follows a closed-door meeting between Abdulmumin Jibrin, the House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday at the State House
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Jubrin disclosed that he was open to leaving the New Nigeria People’s Party for the All Progressives Congress.
“I do not think it is time for that conversation, but everything is open, and it’s a possibility
“The most important thing is the stability of the country; the unity of the country. And I believe that when we get to the bridge, we’ll cross it”, the lawmaker said when asked if he had the intention to return to APC.
He argued that his visit should not be a thing of surprise to Nigerians, given the relationship between President Tinubu and NNPP national leader Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“I came to see Mr President, and, of course, the long-term friendship that the President has also enjoyed with the national leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“So I do not think it’s anything surprising to see me here, to see the President, to greet him, check on him, and also discuss some national issues that I believe are in the interest of the people of this country,” he said
Spear News reports that
Kwankwaso paid a visit to the State House a fortnight ago where he had a close door meeting with President Tinubu.
Although the purpose of the meeting was not disclosed, speculations have it that it was unconnected with ongoing negotiations with the ruling party to build alliance ahead of 2027.
But few days later, he took a sweep at the president during the constitution review town hall meeting that the administration was unfair to the North, alleging that many of the projects were skewed in favour of the South.
