Subheading: Nigeria’s electoral commission has begun publishing results online after a governorship vote in Anambra state that was peaceful but marred by allegations of vote-buying.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded results from more than a third of polling units following Saturday’s governorship election in Nigeria’s Anambra State.
As of Saturday evening, results from 2,116 of the state’s 5,718 polling units had been published on INEC’s official Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
The electoral process was reported to be generally peaceful, with no major incidents of violence. However, the exercise was clouded by widespread accusations of vote-buying at polling stations.
The state’s governor, Charles Soludo, who was seeking re-election, was among those who alleged that the process had been compromised. He accused his opponents of offering money for votes.
Other party agents and observers also reported seeing evidence of the practice, though police officials said they maintained neutrality throughout the day.
The full outcome of the election is still pending as officials continue to collate results from local government areas across the state.
