Senator Magnus Abe, Chairman, Board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), has formally assumed office with a vow to provide purposeful leadership and effective oversight aimed at strengthening the agency’s overall performance.
Abe disclosed this while addressing staff and management of the commission.He also insisted that part of his priorities wasto reposition the commission for greater efficiency and positive impact.
In his words, “I want to assure management that we are here strategically to work with you.“Our goal is to collaborate closely to uplift the Commission and contribute meaningfully to national development.
”He, however, highlighted the need for stronger synergy between the board and the commission’s leadership, underscoring that such cooperation was critical to fulfilling its statutory mandate.
He added that his agenda will include plans to enhance the commission’s working conditions, including efforts to secure a more suitable office environment to improve staff productivity and operational efficiency.
In his words, The board is determined to ensure that the NUPRC operates at optimal capacity while effectively delivering on its responsibilities within Nigeria’s dynamic petroleum sector”.
In her reaction, the commission’s Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan who congratulated the new board members, expressed confidence in their ability to provide the strategic direction required under the Petroleum Industry Act.
She said their inauguration came at a crucial time amid rising global oil and gas prices driven by tensions in the Middle East, noting the need for strong and focused leadership.
Spear News recalls that the NUPRC replaced the upstream division of the former Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), while the midstream/downstream regulator is the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA.
