National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed suggestions of an Atiku-Obi alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that such a pairing would not deliver victory for the opposition coalition.
Tanko made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he was reacting to comments by ADC chieftain Dele Momodu, who had argued that a potential Atiku-Obi combination would give the opposition its strongest chance at the polls.
Rejecting that position, Tanko maintained that the coalition’s winning strategy lies in a different arrangement, warning that an Atiku-Obi ticket would struggle to secure electoral success.
He argued that the presidency must be zoned to the South, stressing that it is “the time for the South” to produce the next president, and warning that ignoring this reality would weaken the opposition’s chances.
He insisted that only a restructured formula, with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi at the centre of the ticket, would position the opposition for victory.
Tanko argued that zoning considerations and candidate balance would be decisive factors in determining the outcome of the 2027 elections.
He added that an Obi-Kwankwaso pairing, with former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, remains the more viable option for the coalition.
“With an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, the election will be over by 12 pm,” he said.
