The five communities of Ovim in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the immediate past Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkeiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha.
This came as they endorsed her 2027 House of Representatives bid for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.
The endorsement took place on Wednesday during a well-attended reception organised by the Ovim communities in honour of the former Honourable Minister and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who was received by a cross-section of traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, and party stalwarts.
In a unanimous resolution read by Chief Enyioma Ekebuike of Ohoroho, the community leaders described Onyejeocha as “our own,” affirming that her track record of impactful representation and constituency development places her far ahead of her political rivals.
“Rt. Hon. Onyejeocha cannot be compared to any of those contesting with her, in all ramifications. She is known for human capital development, which remains a major empowerment tool for our people. That is her defining legacy,” Chief Ekebuike stated.
Other community leaders who spoke at the event included Mazi Iheanyi Iroegbu of Ohonja, Elder Uche Nnaji of Abayi, and Mazi Nkemakola Okoroafor of Amaeke. They were joined by Engr. Victor Nnamdi Ekebuike, Youth Leader of Ovim Youth Assembly; Lolo Dioma Ogbonna, Woman Leader of Ovim Improvement Union; and Elder John Chinenye Ogbonna, National Vice President of Ovim.
The leaders cited Onyejeocha’s developmental strides across the federal constituency, including:
· The Oguduasa Erosion Control Project, which has safeguarded farmlands and communities from environmental degradation;
· Construction and rehabilitation of road infrastructure to improve connectivity and commerce;
· Establishment of a skill acquisition centre to promote youth entrepreneurship and self-reliance;
· Provision of classroom blocks and sustained educational support for students;
· Regular free medical outreach programmes benefiting thousands of indigent residents;
· Federal employment opportunities secured for indigenes across various government agencies.
Responding to the endorsement, Rt. Hon. Onyejeocha expressed gratitude to the Ovim communities for their support and trust in her leadership.
She reassured them of her commitment to the development of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, pledging to complete all projects she had already pushed into the national budget.
“I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming show of love and confidence from my people of Ovim. Let me assure you that this is just the beginning. I remain fully committed to bettering Isuikwuato/Umunneochi. I will ensure that every project I have already secured in the budget is fully completed for the benefit of our people. Above all, I will ensure that the voice of this constituency is heard loud and clear again in the National Assembly,” she stated.
She also promised to sustain her people-centred approach to representation, noting that her legislative focus would be driven by the needs of her constituents, particularly in youth empowerment, women’s inclusion, and infrastructural renewal.
Rt. Hon. Onyejeocha was accompanied by a high-powered delegation of APC chieftains, including the Abia State APC Deputy Governanship Candidate, Dr. Godswill Agu Egbe; the State Organizing Secretary, Barr. Emeka Okoroafor; the Abia State Finance Director, City Boys, Hon. Chinwendu Kalu; Ogbuehi Rex Ogbonna; and several other party leaders.
The endorsement, coming well ahead of the 2027 general elections, signals growing grassroots support for the former Minister and strengthens her position as a frontline contender for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency seat.
