The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a poster and accompanying text circulating on social media which claimed that the Commission has “reaffirmed” a Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released to the public, INEC described the publication as fake, stating categorically that the said poster did not originate from the Commission. The electoral body also condemned the unauthorized use of its logo and the image of the National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the said publication.
“For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation,” the Commission stated.
INEC therefore advised members of the public to disregard the publication in its entirety and to rely only on information from its official and verified channels.
INEC issued the statement to debunk the fake claim and correct the false impression that it had reaffirmed a Senator David Mark-led leadership of the ADC, making clear that it issued no such reaffirmation.
The Commission also moved to disown the poster by clarifying that it did not originate from INEC, thereby distancing itself from the circulating publication.
The statement further flagged the unauthorized use of INEC’s logo and the image of National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna, an action taken to protect the integrity of the Commission and that of its officials.
