Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern warning against corruption while swearing in 19 new Commissioners and a cohort of Board Members and Heads of Commissions.
During the ceremony at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo minced no words in defining the purpose of their new roles. “While I congratulate you on your deserved elevation, I must warn that your appointment is not for personal enrichment,” he stated. “You are not here for money-making, but for service, for sacrifice, and for a better life for Edo people.”
The event was attended by high-ranking officials including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
The Governor emphasized that all appointments were strictly merit-based, describing them as a call to service rather than a reward for patronage. He reiterated that his administration’s focus remains on tangible results and practical governance that directly impacts the lives of citizens.
“Our focus is not on propaganda, but on service delivery and tangible results that can be felt in every community across our state,” Okpebholo noted.
Reaffirming his administration’s core principle, the Governor declared a zero-tolerance policy for corruption. He charged the appointees to display discipline, teamwork, and unwavering loyalty to the people of Edo State, reminding them that history would judge them by their actions, not their intentions.
In his response, Hon. Ebea Festus Odianonsen, who spoke on behalf of the new appointees, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their full commitment to realizing the administration’s developmental agenda for the state.
