Reality TV star Josephine (Phyna) Otago, has called out Dangote Group after one of its trucks crushed her younger sister in Edo State, leaving her with life-changing injuries.
In an emotional outburst, the Big Brother Naija winner accused the company of exploiting her family’s trauma for publicity after staff visited the hospital and shared images of the victim online.
Phyna’s sister, Ruth Otabor, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, suffered severe injuries in the collision, resulting in the amputation of one leg. Doctors at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital have warned that her other leg may also need to be removed.
In a furious social media post directed at Dangote Group, Phyna demanded answers: “How do you wish quick recovery to an already amputated leg? What necessary speed are you taking right now? Let us not forget the Bike Man who is also in a very critical condition. Who gave you the permission to snap any member of my family and post it online? You sent staff members to the hospital and turned it into content. Henceforth, no discussion or meeting should be held with a camera in sight.”
Dangote Cement Plc had earlier issued a statement confirming that senior officials visited the hospital and pledged full support, including medical care and compensation. The company expressed sympathy for the victim, stating: “Our thoughts remain with Mrs. Ruth Otabor and her loved ones, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.”
However, Phyna and supporters, including Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw, have accused authorities of attempting to shield those responsible. Henshaw claimed the truck’s licence plate was removed while in police custody, raising suspicions of a cover-up. “Justice must be served,” she insisted.
Eyewitnesses say the truck driver initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by a lecturer who chased him down. Meanwhile, activists have called for protests, alleging police bias in favour of the truck owners.
As Ruth fights for her life in hospital, public outrage grows, with many Nigerians demanding accountability from both Dangote Group and law enforcement. Phyna has vowed to pursue justice, declaring: “Enough is enough.”
