The National Caretaker Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), widely regarded as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led group of making moves to derail the party’s forthcoming national convention.
In a press conference addressed on Sunday, the Wike faction alleged that the Turaki group is planning to approach courts in Ibadan to secure an injunction aimed at halting the convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
The faction stated that while the leadership had extended invitations for reconciliation and dialogue, the overtures were ignored by the Turaki group, which failed to present itself for meaningful engagement.
According to the statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the courts have affirmed the legitimacy of the National Caretaker Working Committee, and any contrary claims should be disregarded.
The faction expressed concern over what it described as attempts to abuse court processes and frustrate the party’s legitimate activities.
“We will not allow the collective interest of our party to be derailed by actions that are clearly at variance with the principles of unity, internal democracy, and the rule of law,” the statement read.
The Wike faction also called on the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the State High Court to take judicial notice of the alleged attempts to disrupt the party’s convention.
Despite the rising tensions, the faction reaffirmed that the national convention would proceed as planned on March 29 and 30, adding that all necessary arrangements had been concluded.
Members of the party were urged to remain law-abiding and focused as the party prepares for the convention.
The development is the latest in the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the PDP, with two factions laying claim to the party’s structure ahead of the crucial convention.
