Vice President Kashim Shettima has issued a stern warning to insurgents following a wave of deadly attacks in Borno State, declaring that the Federal Government will not be intimidated by what he described as “despicable acts of cowardice” aimed at undermining the nation’s hard-won peace.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Vice President reassured citizens that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been fully briefed on the recent coordinated assaults on military formations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok, as well as the abduction of citizens in Ngoshe.
According to the Vice President, the Commander-in-Chief has already directed a “swift and total mobilisation” of the nation’s security architecture in response to the threat.
“The events of the past few days are a painful reminder of the shadow that persists, but let it be known: we choose light over shadow, and hope over despair,” Shettima said. “Our difference as a nation is the distance between the ruin of anarchy and the promise of order.”
The Vice President revealed that additional tactical assets and intelligence-driven reinforcements are currently being deployed to the affected areas to root out the terrorists and prevent further breaches of security.
“We are not just fighting a war. We are defending the very soul of our humanity against those who preach a toxic rhetoric of hate, and we will not be cowed by their gory acts,” he added.
Expressing grief over the loss of military personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, Shettima assured that the administration’s heart “bleeds for the families” of the victims. He promised that the Federal Government would not rest until all abducted citizens are safely reunited with their families.
The Vice President further warned that the perpetrators of the “beastly crimes” would face the full wrath of the law.
“This madness will be brought to an end, not with empty words, but with the decisive and overwhelming force of the Nigerian State,” Shettima vowed.
He also commended the resilience of the people and government of Borno State under Governor Babagana Zulum, as well as the gallantry of the troops currently battling the insurgents on the frontlines.
