Two sales representatives, Adewumi Ademola, 33 and Odeniyi Olaoluwa, 38, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing their employer’s good worth N9.5 million.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 9 in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr Oriyomi said that they conspired between themselves to commit the stealing.
He said that one of the defendants, Ademola, stole goods worth N5.5 million belonging to their employer, Hassan Wasiu.
He said that the second defendant, Olaoluwa, also stole goods worth N4 million belonging to the complainant.
Mr Oriyomi said that the duo collected goods from the company and did not remit the funds into the account of their employer.
According to him, the offences contravenes Sections 421, 302(1)(a) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant them bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N250,000, with two sureties each in like sum.
Mr Adeosun adjourned the case till February 16 for hearing.
