President Donald Trump has criticized Israel’s military action against Iran in a series of posts on Truth Social Wednesday, distancing the United States from the operation and warning Tehran against further attacks on American partner Qatar.
According to the president’s statement, Israel carried out a strike on a section of Iran’s South Pars Gas Field.
Trump said the attack was motivated by “anger” over events in the Middle East but emphasised that the United States had no advance knowledge of it.
“The United States knew nothing about this particular attack,” Trump wrote.
The president said Iran responded by striking a Qatari LNG facility. He characterised that action as “unjustifiably and unfairly” carried out, noting that Qatar was not involved in the initial Israeli operation and had no idea it was coming.
Qatar hosts the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, and is designated a major non-NATO ally.
Trump’s criticism of Israel focused on the strategic consequences rather than the strike itself. He indicated that the unilateral action, conducted without U.S. coordination, created a situation that now requires an American response.
The president issued a direct warning to Iran. He stated that Israel will conduct no further attacks on the South Pars field but that the United States will hold Iran responsible for any additional strikes on Qatari facilities.
“If Qatar’s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate,” Trump wrote, vowing to destroy the entire South Pars Gas Field with force Iran has “never seen or witnessed before.”
He added that he does not want to authorize that level of destruction due to the long-term implications for Iran but made clear the red line stands.
The White House did not immediately provide additional comment on the president’s remarks.
