Troops of Operation UDO KA, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have recorded fresh operational successes across the South-East under the ongoing Operation Eastern Sanity, with the rescue of kidnapped victims in Enugu State and the arrest of a suspected criminal network member in Ebonyi State.
The latest operations, carried out on April 28, 2026, form part of intensified security efforts aimed at dismantling criminal cells, restoring public confidence, and strengthening safety across the region.
According to military authorities, troops of the 82 Division Garrison deployed at Akama in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State responded swiftly to credible intelligence concerning a kidnap attempt along the Akama–Iwollo Road.
Security operatives reportedly pursued and engaged the suspected kidnappers, leading to the successful rescue of four abducted persons.
The victims were identified as Chisom Kingsley and Chuoke Chinedu, both from Akama community, Jonathan Paul Chukwu from Akwa Ibom State, and Patience John from Taraba State.
During the operation, troops also recovered a motorcycle and a vehicle believed to have been connected to the criminal activity. The rescued victims, alongside the recovered items, were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and necessary procedures.
In a separate but related development, troops of Sector 2, Operation UDO KA, acting on intelligence generated from the earlier arrest of a suspected insurgent commander identified as Chinedu Igautu, also known as “Calamity,” and four associates, launched a follow-up operation in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The operation reportedly led to the arrest of another suspected member of the IPOB/ESN criminal network, identified as Chisom Agashi Ogadego, also known as “Baron.”
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in criminal activities, including kidnapping operations within the state.
Military sources added that useful information obtained from the suspect enabled further operational breakthroughs, including the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, magazines, and ammunition from a location within Izzi Local Government Area.
The Nigerian Army said the coordinated actions demonstrate the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led security operations targeted at neutralising criminal threats and safeguarding communities in the South-East.
The Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence capable of aiding future operations.
