Troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 31 kidnapped victims, neutralized five suspected terrorists, and dismantled several terrorist camps during coordinated operations conducted across Zamfara and Katsina states.
According to military authorities, the rescue operation in Zamfara State took place along the Bagega–Kawaye axis in Anka Local Government Area, where troops secured the release of 31 victims who had been held captive for several weeks.
The victims were rescued following a precision air interdiction by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, supported by a subsequent ground assault on terrorist hideouts located west of the Bagega Forest. Those rescued were identified as residents of Maga, Gummi, Zuru, Wasugu, Bukuyyum, and Anka local government areas across Zamfara and Sokoto states.
Military officials said the victims have received medical attention and are expected to be reunited with their families.
In a separate operation within Zamfara State, troops engaged suspected terrorists along the Maradun and Gidan Dan Jaja axis, resulting in the neutralization of two terrorists. Several identified camps were also destroyed during the operation. Security forces recovered a number of locally fabricated rifles and four motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals.
Meanwhile, in Katsina State, troops intercepted suspected terrorists along the Ruwan Godiya axis and Sayaya Road in Matazu Local Government Area while they were reportedly moving to carry out an attack.
A firefight ensued, during which three terrorists were neutralized. Troops also recovered motorcycles and quantities of ammunition. Military sources disclosed that one of those killed was later identified as an associate of the notorious terrorist leader known as Muhammad Fulani.
Additional weapons and motorcycles were recovered from the encounters.
The military reiterated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to combating terrorism, dismantling criminal networks, and improving security across Nigeria’s North-West region.
