Troops of Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered an automatic rifle during an operation in Benue State.
The Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Whirl Stroke Headquarters in Makurdi, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. He said the troops recorded the success during a combined confidence-building and fighting patrol along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road.
According to him, the operation followed credible intelligence provided by local residents. Troops swiftly mobilised to the location in conjunction with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard.
“Upon arrival at the identified location, troops made contact with the suspected bandits. In the ensuing engagement, two of the terrorists were neutralised, while others fled into the surrounding bush with possible gunshot wounds,” Zubairu stated.
He added that the troops exploited the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pair of green camouflage uniforms abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major-General Moses Gara, commended the gallantry, professionalism, and swift response of the troops, noting that their proactive posture continues to yield positive results in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
Gara also expressed appreciation to members of the local communities for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing such cooperation as critical to operational success. He encouraged residents to sustain their support for security agencies and assured them of the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
