Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have intensified security operations across the Jos metropolis in a renewed effort to curb escalating tensions and restore stability in Plateau State.
The military, in a coordinated move on Friday, launched a comprehensive stop-and-search operation across strategic locations within Jos North and surrounding areas, as part of broader measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property in the region.
According to a statement by the Joint Task Force, the enhanced security presence led to the interception and arrest of two suspects during targeted patrols conducted at key flashpoints, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost housing area.
During the operation, troops reportedly recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action firearm, and a cutlass, underscoring ongoing concerns about illegal arms circulation in the area.
In a separate but related development, troops responded swiftly to a distress call over sporadic gunfire at the Yelwa Cattle Market area in Shendam. Upon arrival, the gunmen reportedly fled into nearby bushes following superior tactical pressure from the troops.
Subsequent search operations in the area led to the discovery of two residents who sustained gunshot injuries. The victims were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
The military command reiterated its commitment to maintaining a strong and visible presence across Plateau State, noting that operations will continue with increased intensity until all threats to peace and security are neutralized.
Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing operations, as efforts to restore lasting peace in the affected communities continue.
