Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states as part of ongoing efforts to protect communities and neutralize armed groups in the North West.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, the operations were conducted within the week and recorded multiple successes.
In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII on March 25, 2026, engaged terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho Forest.
During the operations, three terrorists were neutralized, while troops recovered three AK 47 rifles and motorcycles.
In Zamfara State, troops carried out a successful ambush along the Gada Maya to Makakari Village road on the same day.
Two terrorists were neutralized, while others retreated.
Items recovered include one AK 47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and one motorcycle.
Later that day, terrorists reportedly attacked Kaida Village, accusing residents of collaborating with security forces.
Troops responded swiftly, neutralizing one additional attacker and recovering another AK 47 rifle.
In a separate operation, troops acting on intelligence conducted a clearance mission in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area.
The operation forced fleeing terrorists to abandon one AK 47 rifle, one magazine, and 26 rounds of ammunition.
In Kebbi State, troops responded to intelligence on the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area.
However, they were ambushed approximately 500 metres before reaching the village.
Despite the attack, troops held their ground, while reinforcements and additional operational support have been deployed to track and neutralize the fleeing terrorists.
The Nigerian Army said troops under Sector 2 remain committed to dominating the operational environment, degrading terrorist capabilities, and protecting civilians.
It added that ongoing intelligence led operations are aimed at ensuring sustained pressure on armed groups across the region.
