Troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XI under Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested three suspects and recovered an AK-47 rifle alongside ammunition in Benue State.
The Acting Media Information Officer for Headquarters OPWS, Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Makurdi.
According to him, the suspects were arrested on March 26 in Agasha, Guma Local Government Area, during a pre-wet season operation.
Zubairu said the troops acted on credible intelligence, swiftly cordoned off the area and apprehended Sule Ibrahim and Salmanu Risko, both from Nasarawa State, as well as Abdulkareem Haruna from Jos, Plateau State.
Items recovered from the suspects include one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 27 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, a cutlass, 10 sachets of alcohol, and assorted charms.
He added that the suspects are currently in military custody for preliminary investigation and will be handed over for further prosecution by the appropriate authorities.
Zubairu noted that troops have maintained an aggressive operational posture across the region, aiming to deny criminal elements freedom of action and improve security ahead of the farming season.
He further stated that the Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication to safeguarding law-abiding citizens within their area of responsibility.
