Traditional religious adherents in Bauchi State have declared a five-day period of prayers and fasting in honour of former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
The spiritual exercise, scheduled to begin on February 28, 2026, was announced by the Chief Priest and Chairman of the Traditional Religious Worshippers in the state, Mbami Iliya Sabka, during the annual African Traditional Religion prayer gathering in Bauchi.
Sabka explained that the initiative is aimed at seeking divine guidance, protection, longevity, and renewed strength for the former governor, acknowledging his continued involvement in governance and leadership development in Nigeria.
He noted that the five-day observance will coincide with the Ramadan fasting period, describing the timing as symbolic of interfaith harmony and shared spiritual reflection among the people of the state.
According to him, the gesture reflects a collective commitment to unity, peace, and the overall progress of Bauchi State and the country.
The Chief Priest urged traditional worshippers and residents to sustain prayers for leaders at all levels, emphasizing that spiritual support plays a crucial role in promoting responsible leadership and good governance.
He also encouraged citizens to foster peaceful coexistence and strengthen national cohesion.
The group reaffirmed its dedication to promoting tolerance and mutual respect among the diverse religious and ethnic communities in the state. They called on residents to use the period of fasting and prayer for reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to nation-building.
The five-day spiritual programme is expected to draw traditional worshippers from across Bauchi State and further reinforce communal solidarity and shared aspirations for sustainable development.
