Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have eliminated a high-ranking Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commander and recorded a series of victories against insurgent and criminal elements across Borno and Adamawa States.
The most impactful breakthrough occurred on Friday, January 30, when intelligence confirmed the killing of JULAIBIB, a top ISWAP commander operating within the strategic Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.
He was neutralised during a fierce encounter around Kimba in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to a press statement from the headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), the elimination of Julaibib has thrown ISWAP elements in the area into disarray, with several other fighters reportedly killed in the operation. Military analysts view this as a critical strike against the terror group’s command and control structure in the region.
This major success was complemented by several other coordinated operations. Earlier on Thursday, January 29, OPHK troops, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, ambushed and neutralized three terrorists moving between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri communities in Borno.
The operation, based on credible intelligence, led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, with other insurgents fleeing with gunshot wounds.
On the same day, at Tsokorok in Gwoza LGA, troops in an ambush position engaged BH/ISWAP terrorists, forcing their retreat and neutralizing one fighter. The troops recovered two motorcycles and sustained no casualties.
The operational tempo extended into Adamawa State, where troops demonstrated swift response to criminal activities. On Thursday, they foiled an armed robbery attempt in Barama community, Mubi North LGA, arresting two suspects who were attacking a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. One suspect was injured during the confrontation. Recovered items included cutlasses, laptops, and mobile phones.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, January 28, a joint fighting patrol with local vigilantes along the Amtasa-Washim axis in Hong LGA engaged terrorists, rescuing an abducted woman and recovering significant weaponry. The cache included an AK-47 rifle, a submachine gun, and 42 rounds of assorted ammunition.
The military high command affirmed that the general security situation across the theatre remains stable.
Operation HADIN KAI reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, dismantling terrorist networks, and collaborating with communities and stakeholders to restore lasting peace and economic stability to the North-East region.
