Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election in Kogi State by a landslide.
Mr Bello, who is the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Kogi Central Senatorial District, also expressed confidence in the continued support of the people of the district for the APC and its leadership.
He spoke when he received a rousing welcome from supporters during his homecoming to Kogi Central.
โI have never doubted that my people are with me 100 per cent. I have never doubted that my people are supporting APC 100 per cent,โ Mr Bello said.
He described the reception as a demonstration of the bond between him and the people of the district, whom he served as governor between 2016 and 2024.
The former governor also expressed confidence in the support of Kogi residents for Mr Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Ododo, saying the people understood the developmental direction of the APC-led administrations at the federal and state levels.
Mr Bello said the turnout at the homecoming was particularly significant because, according to him, it was not induced but a spontaneous expression of support and solidarity.
โIt is organic. It is inborn, it is inherent, it is in our DNA, and I sincerely appreciate them,โ he said.
He thanked God, the APC, Mr Tinubu, Mr Ododo and party members at all levels for their support, describing the gathering as evidence of the partyโs grassroots structure in the state.
Mr Bello also assured Mr Tinubu of strong support for the APC in Kogi State, particularly in Kogi Central, saying he considered the forthcoming elections effectively settled in favour of the party.
โI want to assure Mr President that the Kogi State election, and the election of Kogi Central in particular, is as good as done 100 per cent for APC,โ he said.
Earlier, former Kogi APC Chairman Abdullahi Bello described the homecoming as a significant demonstration of the peopleโs support for the former governor.
He said residents had turned out in large numbers to welcome Mr Bello, whom he credited with contributing to the development and political mobilisation of the state.
โThis is the homecoming of a leader that liberated the whole Edira, and we all turned out to welcome him. It is not an easy thing,โ Mr Abdullahi said.
