Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu on Thursday expanded his cabinet, swearing in Dr. Bernard Doro and Dr. Kingsley Udeh as new ministers, before presiding over what was described as a crucial Federal Executive Council meeting – the first since July.
The brief swearing-in ceremony, held at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, filled the vacant ministerial slots for Plateau and Enugu states.
Dr. Bernard Doro, a UK-trained clinical practitioner and public health administrator, was nominated in October to lead the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. He replaces Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who resigned after becoming the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
Dr. Kingsley Udeh, until his nomination, was the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State. He takes over the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, following the resignation of the former minister, Uche Nnaji.
Shortly after the ceremony, President Tinubu convened the long-awaited Federal Executive Council meeting.
During the session, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, presented a positive economic outlook. He announced that Nigeria’s recent return to the international capital market had drawn significant investor confidence, with a $2.35 billion Eurobond oversubscribed by 453%.
“The next phase of reforms will remove barriers holding back investors,” Edun stated, adding that the government plans to review tariffs and import restrictions to stimulate productivity.
President Tinubu welcomed the economic report and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism and delivering a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
The swearing-in brings the total number of ministers in President Tinubu’s cabinet to 48.
