China has pledged to continue supporting Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and in maintaining domestic stability, following a high-level meeting in Abuja.
The commitment was made by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, during talks with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Malam Nuhu Ribadu.
In a statement, Ambassador Yu said the cooperation between the two nations was strengthening.
“Since President Tinubu’s attendance at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and his state visit to China last year, practical cooperation between our two countries across various fields has yielded fruitful outcomes,” the ambassador said.
He added that this cooperation was “effectively supporting Nigeria’s socioeconomic development and the improvement of people’s livelihoods.”
The ambassador also framed the relationship in broader terms, positioning China as a key ally that respects Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He stated that China, “as a comprehensive strategic partner of Nigeria, firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people to a development path that fits Nigeriaโs national realities.”
In a clear reference to Western nations, Ambassador Yu outlined a shared principle of non-interference, saying, “We oppose any countryโs interference in other countriesโ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights.”
“We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force,” he added.
