President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his nationwide Democracy Day Address, Friday declared approval to immortalize and honour the late prominent Nigerian Pro-democracy advocate, General Musa Yar’Adua by renaming the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies now University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology in Kaduna State.after him.
Tinubu said the institution, henceforth, will be known as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
He said the resolution was taken to recognise Yar’Adua’s immense contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development, as well as his vision of national unity and political cooperation.
In his words, “Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour General Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership”.
Also, the president Tinubu recalled that the late military officer and politician was a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey, explaining that his efforts helped to shape the struggle for the restoration of civilian rule.
Spear News Nigeria recalls that Yar’Adua, died in detention in 1997 during military rule. He was widely regarded as one of the leading voices, advocating for democracy and reform in the country.
The President said his decision forms part of the broader efforts to preserve the legacy of individuals who played key roles in advancing democracy and national development in the country.
