As part of efforts to fortify their chances ahead of 2027 elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a high-powered Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, the committee, inaugurated in Lagos, is tasked with the core mandate of resolving internal conflicts and crafting a robust strategy to position the party for the 2027 polls.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was appointed Chairman of the committee, with Muiz Banire, former APC National Legal Adviser, serving as Member/Secretary.
The committeeโs composition reflects a broad-based approach, bringing together key power centres and stakeholders within the party.
Members include the Chairman of the Nigeria Governorsโ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq; the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; and Governors Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
Other notable members are Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna) and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
The statement quoted Governor Mai Mala Buni, who, upon accepting the responsibility, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the party for the confidence reposed in the members. He pledged the committeeโs dedication to executing its assignment with utmost responsibility.
“The committee will engage in strategic engagements and consultations to develop an all-encompassing, productive and result-oriented strategy that will stand the test of time,” Buni stated.
“We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope. Similarly, the committee will consider proactive measures, solutions, and the potential threats in our conflict resolution approach,” he added.
He urged members to prioritise the partyโs general interest over personal sentiments.
The inauguration follows President Tinubuโs strong advocacy for party unity at the APCโs 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting last Friday in Abuja.
At that meeting, the President had reminded party leaders that the APC was built on the ideals of progressive politics, broad-based participation, and respect for diverse opinions.
The formation of this committee is widely seen as a strategic step to heal rifts, streamline party operations, and consolidate its structure ahead of the crucial 2027 election cycle.
