President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The move follows the Senate’s confirmation of the board members on December 16.
The announcement was made in a statehouse press statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy.
Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, previously Vice Chairman of the Commission, has been appointed as the new Chairman.
His appointment, effective from December 1, 2025, will last until the completion of his ten-year tenure at NERC in accordance with the Electricity Act, 2023.
The newly constituted board also sees Dr. Yusuf Ali, a commissioner since 2022, designated as Vice Chairman. The team comprises a mix of returning and new commissioners. Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, and Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello are all serving second terms. Dr. Chidi Ike continues his first term, while Dr. Fouad Animashaun, a seasoned energy economist and former head of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission, joins as a new commissioner for his first term.
President Tinubu has charged the board with the critical task of deepening and consolidating the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector. He emphasized that their work must be in strict alignment with the provisions and objectives of the Electricity Act, 2023.
