President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite in a cabinet portfolio adjustment.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Uzoka-Anite will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio in the current administration.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the minister of state for finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite,” the statement read. “Uzoka-Anite will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, as the Minister of State, her third portfolio in the administration.”
The statement further revealed that President Tinubu has formally conveyed the nomination to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Until his nomination, Oyedele, who hails from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led the ongoing overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.
At 50, Oyedele brings a wealth of experience to the proposed role, combining expertise as an economist, accountant, and public policy expert. His educational background includes a Higher National Diploma in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He has also completed executive education programmes at several prestigious international institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele’s professional career includes a 22-year stint at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which he joined in 2001, rising through the ranks to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
