The National Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday warned Governor Seyi Makinde and the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the party to stop manipulating court verdicts in the protracted supremacy battle over the national control of the party.
Wike said this while addressing some select newsmen in Abuja to essentially dismiss claims of an interim leadership arrangement in the party as illegal and deceptive.
“When will people stop being fraudulent? You cannot disobey court judgments and then turn around to deceive Nigerians that you have a legitimate structure. That is not how democracy works.”
The minister pointed out that only a court-recognised leadership can run the affairs of the party, as any parallel structure amounts to illegality.
In his words: “You don’t form a leadership in your bedroom and call it a national structure. Let them open an office anywhere and call it a PDP secretariat β I dare them. That is how you know what is real and what is not.”
He argued that ongoing attempts to constitute an “illegal caretaker arrangement” were efforts to mislead party members and the public, insisting that the judiciary had already provided clarity on the matter.
